Intermediate Creative Writing
Review character, plot, dialogue, and setting through in-class writing, friendly discussion and short assignments in a workshop format. Emphasis is on making writing an enjoyable and productive experience. Students will become familiar with positive critiquing methods and the use of personal editing skills. Students are encouraged to share their writing with the class. Ellen Kelly lives and writes in Airdrie, Alberta, where she has mentored young writers for many years. She is a member of the Alexandra Writers' Centre Society and teaches Introductory Creative Writing, Intermediate Creative Writing and Personal Essays. She believes that people learn and create more effectively when they are having fun, and her classes are based on that concept. Her writing has appeared in Grain Magazine, NeWest Review, FreeFall, 2000% Cracked Wheat (Coteau Books), the Calgary Herald, WestWord, Legacy, Airdrie Life magazine, and the Alexandra Reader. In 2006, she was a finalist in the Jon Whyte Memorial Essay Contest.
